Notwithstanding all odds and financial challenges, Nancy Rani, a student of Government High School, Satiyewala, sprung a surprise by bagging the first position in Class X Punjab School Education Board exams by securing 644 marks. Nancy’s father Ramkrishan works as a carpenter while her mother Sandeep is a tailor.
While talking to The Tribune, Nancy dedicated her success to her parents, who have been putting their best efforts for educating her. Nancy said she used to study for almost 12 hours a day and also helped her mother in stitching work and other household chores. Ironically, unlike other students, who dream of becoming a doctor, engineer or an IAS officer, Nancy wish to become a teacher.
Nancy’s elder brother Sahil is studying in Class XII at Government Senior Secondary School, Bajidpur, while her younger brother Dheeraj is studying in Class VIII in her school. Parveen Kumari, Principal of Government High School, Satiyewala, said: “She has always been a topper in the class. She is introvert by nature, but always ready to take any responsibility. In Class VIII also, she had secured third place in the entire district for National Means-cum-Merit Scholarship Scheme (NMMSS). Today, we all are feeling proud of Nancy.”
Kuldip Bhullar, brother of MLA Ranbir Bhullar, also visited her house and met the family members. “Nancy has made all of us proud. I will ensure that Nancy gets proper financial assistance for her studies in future,” said Bhullar.
