Girls have outshone boys to bag the top three positions in the Class X results declared by the Punjab School Education Board here today.
Nancy Rani of Government High School, Satiye Wala, Ferozepur, bagged the first position by scoring 644 (99.08 per cent) marks out of 650, while Dilpreet Kaur (644) of Sangrur came second and Komalpreet Kaur, also from Sangrur, was declared third with 642 marks (98.77 per cent).
Controller of Examinations Janak Raj Mehrotra said the first and second rank holders had secured the same marks. However, since Nancy was younger, she had been given the top rank as per the tie-breaker formula. The result will be available on the website of the Punjab School Education Board from July 6 onwards. Of the total 3,23,361 students, 3,16,699 have passed.
Meanwhile, 1,01,554 students from urban areas appeared for the exam, of whom 1,00,285 cleared it with a pass percentage of 98.75. In rural areas, 2,09,991 candidates appeared, of whom 2,08,342 cleared it with a pass percentage of 99.21.
Gurdaspur district topped the state with a pass percentage of 99.52 per cent followed by Pathankot (99.48 per cent, Shaheed Bhagat Singh Nagar (99.42 per cent), Hoshiarpur (99.41 per cent) and Kapurthala (99.40 per cent).
The pass percentage of girls (regular) is 99.34 per cent and of boys 98.83 per cent. As many as 2,475 students are required to reappear in some subject to clear the examination. In addition, the result of 317 children is late due to technical reasons.
