Amritsar, January 6
The surge in Covid cases has compelled the Border Security Force (BSF) to suspend visitors’ access to the spectators’ gallery to watch ‘Beating the Retreat’ ceremony held every evening at the Attari-Wagah Joint Check Post.
This decision was taken by the BSF following the latest Covid prevention guidelines issued from the office of the District Magistrate, Amritsar, that prevent the operation of stadia for the public.
BSF, DIG, Punjab Frontier Kuldeep Singh said after reviewing the situation, it was decided to prevent the visitors’ entry to the reveille and retreat ceremony at Attari as a preventive measure against Covid spread. The orders have been implemented with immediate effect and public viewing has been suspended till further orders. Sources said the drill carried out during these ceremonies has also been suspended in the absence of spectators. — TNS
