Punjab’s Advocate General Atul Nanda resigned from his position—one more addition to the resignations that followed former chief minister Amarinder Singh’s decision to step down from his post.
The reason for Nanda’s resignation is yet unknown. The Chief Minister’s media adviser, Raveen Thukral, also announced he’d resigned in his official capacity, but said he’d continue to work with the chief minister in his “personal capacity”.
“Just want to share that I’ve resigned from my post as Media Advisor to Punjab CM. But will continue to work with @capt_amarinder in my personal capacity, as a friend,” Thukral said in his tweet.
Suresh Kumar, the chief secretary to Punjab Chief Minister Amarinder Singh, also put in his papers hours after the chief minister had announced he had resigned in humiliation.

Nanda was appointed Advocate General soon after Amarinder Singh’s government was voted to power with a sweeping majority in the 2017 assembly elections. A prominent lawyer, Nanda has previously appeared in the Supreme Court in Punjab’s cases. Among other things, he has previously represented Chief Minister Capt Amarinder Singh in corruption cases against him.
