Chandigarh, July 20
The Punjab and Haryana High Court today asked the Punjab Director General of Police to “consider and decide” in accordance with law a representation for taking action against the people/officials responsible for disclosing/sharing the official classified documents on security.
The petitioner, Satbir Singh Walia, contended the disclosure had caused serious prejudice to the security of the “eminent personalities” and, in turn, the State. As the case came up for hearing before Justice Karamjit Singh, the counsel for the petitioner submitted he would be satisfied if a time-bound direction was given to the official respondents to consider and decide the representation dated June 7.
Accepting the notice issued by the Bench, Punjab deputy advocate-general Samina Dhir submitted the authorities concerned would consider and decide as per law any complaint/representation in case it has been filed. The counsel for the petitioner agreed to the proposal.
“In view of above and without going into the merits of the case, the present petition is disposed of with direction to respondent-DGP to consider and decide representation dated June 7 in accordance with law within a period of two months from the date of receiving the order’s certified copy,” Justice Karamjit Singh concluded.
