Punjab CM orders prompt payment to farmers

Morinda, October 3

Chief Minister Charanjit Singh Channi today said payment to farmers would be made the same day against paddy purchase.

Channi, who formally launched the paddy procurement process across the state from the grain market here, said all necessary arrangements for smooth, prompt and seamless purchase, lifting and storage of produce had been made by the state government.

This comes a day after Prime Minister Narendra Modi, on Channi’s request, allowed the state to undertake paddy procurement from October 3, instead of October 11.

Channi said every single grain of the farmers’ produce would be lifted from the market and prescribed norms for timely payment would be ensured. He urged farmers to bring their produce within the specifications of moisture content laid down by the Centre.

He directed Gurkirat Kirpal Singh, Secretary, Food and Civil Supplies Department, to ensure hassle-free procurement during the current kharif marketing season. Others present include Special Principal Secretary to CM Rahul Tiwari, Ropar DC Sonali Giri and SSP Vivek Sheel Soni. — TNS
