Amritsar, October 10
Shiromani Akali Dal (SAD) president Sukhbir Singh Badal today alleged the current power crisis in the state was a direct consequence of the Congress government’s utter neglect and absence
of advance planning and preparedness.
During a visit to Amritsar, Sukhbir paid obeisance at Valmiki temple in Gawal Mandi, Hanuman Mandir and Jama Masjid, Gurdwara Cheharata Sahib and Gurdwara Bohri Sahib.
On the power shortage, he said the Union Coal Ministry had clarified that there was no shortage of coal supplies in the country. “The Punjab Government’s ill-conceived policy was the reason behind the current crisis as it failed to keep the required reserves of coal to meet the emergent situation,” he said. Stressing power was one of the key priority areas during the Akali government, Sukhbir said: “Coal shortages are nothing new and these happened during our times also. But we always used to prepare in advance and never let the state run into such foreseeable and preventable crises.”
Later, he held a rally organised by SAD North candidate Anil Joshi in the Ranjit Avenue area. Others present on the occasion included Dr Dalbir Verka, Gurpartap Tikka, Talbir Gill and SGPC member Rajinder Singh Mehta.
