Punjab Police conduct statewide search ops against anti-social elements

Chandigarh, July 9

The Punjab Police today conducted a massive cordon and search operation in all 28 police districts of the state, aiming to check the movement of anti-social elements.

Officiating Director General of Police (DGP) Gaurav Yadav and ADGP (Law and Order) Ishwar Singh led the operation in different societies of Mohali. They said such operations would continue till the menace of drugs and gangsters was rooted out of the state.

The operation was conducted from 11 am to 3 pm across the state, and ADGP and IGP-rank officers were deployed in each police district to supervise the operation.

MF Farooqui, ADGP (Railways), supervised and conducted the search in Amritsar. In all, eight persons were arrested and 11 detained. The police seized 280-gm heroin.

In Jalandhar, six persons have been arrested, while 805-gm heroin and more than Rs 83,000 were seized.

Inspector General of Police (IGP), Faridkot range, PK Yadav, and Muktsar SSP Dhruman H Nimbale conducted the operation at the possible hideouts of drug peddlers on the Goneana road and Bura Gujjar road in Muktsar. In all, 21 persons, including seven women, were arrested with 200-gm heroin, 4,175 sedative pills and six kg of poppy husk. Three vehicles were also seized.

In Ferozepur, the police under the supervision of SSP Charanjit Singh seized around 1,000 intoxicating tablets, 40-gm heroin, 50 bottles of illicit liquor, three stolen motorcycles, two phones and Rs 30,200.

“A wanted criminal, identified as Wilson, alias Tiger, was nabbed,” said the SSP.

In Sangrur and Patiala districts, hundreds of cops conducted raids at the houses of suspected drug smugglers. Drugs, mobile phones and a two-wheeler were seized.

In Bathinda, the police conducted a search in the Bir Talab area and arrested more than 10 persons.
