Chandigarh, October 18
The Punjab cabinet on Monday decided to waive pending water bills of rural and urban consumers, besides bringing down the monthly water tariff to Rs 50 per connection.
CM Charanjit Channi said the waiver would put a financial burden of nearly Rs 1,800 crore on the state exchequer.
The cabinet also decided that in future the state government would pay the electricity bills of water-supply tubewells in urban and rural areas.
