Chandigarh, September 15
Reacting to PCC president Navjot Sidhu’s attack on its leadership on the central farm laws, the SAD has asked him to repeal the amendments made to the APMC Act by the Congress government in 2017, if he was really serious about helping the farming community.
SAD spokesman Daljit Singh Cheema alleged, “We ask Sidhu to stop behaving like a rabble-rouser. His utterances indicate that he is just keen to play a game of one-upmanship with Chief Minister Capt Amarinder Singh and has no intention of doing anything to ensure repeal of the three farm laws.” He said Sidhu was raking up old issues instead of showing solidarity with farmers on the ground.
Cheema asked why was Sidhu silent on the Congress’ stand to abolish APMC mandis as well as do away with the Essential Commodities Act. He said why was Sidhu not speaking up against the amendments made to the APMC Act by his government in 2017 which contained the same provisions as in the three central farm laws. — TNS
