Moga, July 11
A Rs 11 lakh fertiliser and pesticide scam in the Cooperative Department has come to light in Moga district. The suspect has been identified as Gurlagan Singh, salesman at a Cooperative Society, at Mandar village.
Initial findings suggested that there was a shortfall of
Rs 11,08,737 in the record. The figures could further increase as the FIR has been registered on report of the cooperative society. Gurbhej Singh, chief, Cooperative Society (Mandar), had lodged a complaint
with the Moga SSP.
Some farmers complained to officials of the Cooperative Department that they had cleared bills of fertiliser and pesticides purchased by them in cash to the salesman, but the entries were not made in the records.
Farmers alleged that the salesman had created an artificial shortage of pesticides during the Covid-19 pandemic and could have sold farm-inputs to non- members without depositing the money in the society’s account. The suspect has been booked under Section 408, IPC, and was yet to be arrested.
