Rs110-cr heroin seized in Ferozepur district

Ferozepur, January 11

The alert Border Security Force(BSF) jawans on Tuesday thwarted yet another attempt of Pakistan-based smugglers to push narcotics and ammunition inside the Indian territory and recovered 22-kg heroin worth Rs 110 crore in three separate incidents, besides a pistol, magazine and eight live cartridges.

In the first incident, jawans belonging to the 103 Battalion recovered 10 packets of heroin weighing 19.375 kg. Along with heroin, the BSF recovered a pistol, magazine and eight cartridges. The contraband was estimated to be around Rs 100 crore.

Sources said that the BSF jawans observed some suspicious movement ahead of the border fencing near the BOP Amarkot along the India-Pakistan border during the wee hours. Later, a search operation was carried out during which 10 packets wrapped in yellow packaging were recovered. Besides, the jawans also recovered 430 gram of opium.

In another incident, the 116 Battalion recovered one packet of heroin weighing 1 kg near BOP Harbhajan while in the third incident, the jawans recovered 1-kg heroin near BOP Muthianwali. — OC
