Sangrur locals protest FIR against Nagar Council ex-president Vijay Lankesh

Sangrur, October 11

Sangrur Nagar Council (NC) ex-chief Vijay Lankesh’s family members and residents protested in front of the city police station and demanded the cancellation of a fraud case registered against him.

“We will intensify our agitation as the police have registered a false case against Lankesh under the pressure of local leaders,” said protesters.

Complainant Ravi Chawla, Congress ex-councillor, has alleged Lankesh got registered a community hall, constructed on government land, under the name of Dr Bhim Rao Ambedkar Community Hall Management Committee even before its inauguration on September 14.

However, Vijay Lankesh’s brother Johny claimed: “On December 15, 2014, then SDM in the presence of residents decided that the committee will be the caretaker of the community hall and park.”

Ex-minister and Lehra MLA Parminder Dhindsa said if the police fail to cancel the FIR, they would gherao the SSP office. Meanwhile, SHO Gurvir Singh said investigations were on. — TNS
