Sangrur, June 17
Chief Minister Bhagwant Mann is drawing flak from political parties for failing to “thank voters” of the constituency after winning the Assembly election from here.
“Mann has created history by not meeting voters in his constituency even once after winning the election more than three months ago. It shows that his priorities are others, not his constituency. Some time back we had distributed posters about the CM’s absence,” said Randeep Deol, BJP Sangrur district president.
On April 10, the CM had visited two religious places in the constituency, but no function was organised to meet voters.
In the election to the Dhuri Assembly constituency, except Congress candidate and local MLA Dalvir Singh Goldy, the other three main parties — SAD, BJP and AAP — had given tickets to persons belonging to other constituencies.
Though Goldy tried hard to focus his campaign on “Son of Dhuri vs outsiders”, he failed to win.
After winning the election from Dhuri, Mann had resigned as Sangrur MP.
“The CM’s absence from his own constituency is becoming an issue in the bypoll. Local AAP leaders do not have any answer when residents ask them why Mann has not visited them even once. Also, we have not seen any improvement in facilities. If Mann does not want to meet us, at least he should bring some improvement in facilities,” said a resident.
Local AAP leader Anwar Bhasaur, who is said to be close to the CM, said all Opposition parties were trying to make an issue out of a non-issue. “Everyone knows that since the first day of formation of the government, CM Mann has been working round the clock to fulfil all promises. He wants to fulfill promises first and does not want to waste time in making tours only to thank voters. He will visit Dhuri in coming days,” he added.
