Sangrur LS byelection: Stakes high, AAP deputes six ministers to woo voters

Sangrur, June 13

Unwilling to take any chance, the AAP has deputed its six ministers for campaigning in the Sangrur Lok Sabha bypoll. The ministers are mainly focusing on the achievements of the government.

“Sangrur residents have always elected honest leaders like our Chief Minister Bhagwant Mann. It’s only the AAP that gives tickets to candidates hailing from middle-class families. This time also, we are hopeful that you will elect AAP candidate who can raise you voice in Parliament,” said Revenue and Water Resources Minister Brahm Shankar Jimpa at Bhawanigarh.

Along with Jimpa, the AAP has deputed ministers Laljit Singh Bhullar, Dr Baljeet Kaur, Kuldeep Singh Dhaliwal, Harjot Singh Bains and Harbhajan Singh ETO for campaigning in the area. The ministers are mainly focusing on achievements of the government and also citing the honest image of CM Mann and Delhi CM Arvind Kejriwal among people.

“During the last parliamentary and Assembly elections, you created history by repeatedly electing Mann. Our government will definitely bring prosperity in Punjab as our leaders Mann and Kejriwal work honestly. Previous governments did nothing and only increased the debt of Punjab,” said Dhaliwal in the Dhuri Assembly constituency.

While talking to The Tribune, some voters said they listened to speeches of ministers and MLAs of the ruling and opposition parties. A majority appeared to be unimpressed by them. “If ministers are coming to our houses, it does not mean that they will get our votes. Everyone knows that they have come here only for votes and not to solve our problems,” said a local shopkeeper while showing leaking sewage pipe near his house.

Row over slain singer’s photo in poll song

Sangrur: The use of slain singer Sidhu Moosewala’s photo by Dalvir Singh Goldy, Cong nominee for the Sangrur bypoll, in his recently released election song has invited sharp criticism from the AAP. “A mother has lost his son but it is appalling the Cong is trying to draw political mileage out of this. The Cong should desist from using such tactics and hurting the sentiments of family and fans,” said AAP nominee Gurmail Singh.
