Jalandhar, October 6
Minister for Social Justice and Empowerment Raj Kumar Verka today said he would try to convince the colleges to accept 40 per cent payment of pending dues of SC Post-Matric Scholarship amount of Rs 1,549 crore for the three previous academic sessions.
Verka said the amount had been due for years 2017-20 and the Centre, which was earlier paying 90 per cent share, had refused to pay any amount. “We have told the colleges that we will pay up to 40 per cent of the amount for final settlement of the issue. We hope that they will concede to our request and accept our proposal. I have reviewed the scheme today. All those colleges which had unduly collected the scholarship amount will be moved against soon and their owners would have to face the jail. A progress on all these issues would be seen in the next 10 days,” he said.
The minister agreed that PCC chief Navjot Sidhu had shown “hurriedness” in tendering his resignation to the Congress high command. “But everything has been sorted out now and tomorrow he will be go to UP in a cavalcade of over 10,000 cars to protest against the BJP-led UP Government,” he said. He added that Sidhu and other leaders were all geared up to fulfil its all promises, including ensuring punishment for those responsible for the sacrilege cases. — TNS
