Sangrur, October 25
Some Kashmiri students scuffled with those from Bihar and UP at Bhai Gurdas Institute of Engineering and Technology, near Ghabdan village of Sangrur, after Pakistan’s victory over India in the T20 World Cup match last night.
While both sides later tendered apologies, the authorities deployed police to prevent the situation from escalating. Sources said while most students were watching the match on their laptops in their rooms, some were seeing it on the TV in the boys’ hostel common room. As per allegations, the scuffle occurred after the match. “They had a minor scuffle and some furniture was damaged. Faculty members, warden and security staff reached the spot and prevented things from taking an ugly turn,” said institute chairman Dr Guninderjit Singh Minku Jawandha adding, “The matter has been resolved and we have not lodged any complaint.” — TNS
