Punjab Chief Minister Charanjit Singh Channi on Thursday at a rally in Tanda said that Prime Minister Narendra Modi is wrongly defaming Punjab by alleging that he was under threat in the state due to a security breach in his cavalcade yesterday.

He further said that had police used force on the farmers who came to protest on the road in front of PM’s convoy in Ferozepur yesterday, it would have been another Bargari incident.

“Then there would have been no difference between Badals and us. When they could have been removed by persuasion and assurance, why does the Centre expect us to use force? The protesters were at least one km away from the PM and then how could they be a threat to him as told to our Finance Minister Manpreet Badal yesterday,” said Channi blaming the PM for wrongly defaming Punjab.

He told the gathering that even today the weather was bad, but there is a good gathering. But yesterday, only 700 people turned up and everyone could only spot the red empty chairs.
