SGPC to send legal notice to Kiran Bedi

Amritsar, June 15

Despite former Lieutenant Governor of Puducherry and the BJP leader Kiran Bedi tendering an apology over her contentious remarks against Sikhs, the Shiromani Gurdwara Parbandhak Committee (SGPC) is adamant to initiate legal action against her.

During the launch of her book “Fearless Governance”, Bedi had reportedly cracked a “12 o’clock” joke on the Sikh community.

SGPC chief Harjinder Singh Dhami said Bedi would be issued a legal notice for hurting the

Sikh sentiments. “She is liable to face legal action. It was shameful on her part to have such a cheap mentality of making fun of Sikhs despite hailing from Punjab. She should know the history that when the Mughals were looting India and abducting women, it was the Sikhs who had fought and protected the sisters and daughters. It used to be ’12 o’clock’ when the Sikhs attacked the invaders,” he said.

Soon after the condemnation of her remarks, Bedi tweeted, “I have highest regards for my community. I am a devotee of Nanak Dev. What I said to the audience even at my own cost (as I also belong here) be kindly not misread. I seek forgiveness for this.I am the last person to cause any hurt. I believe in seva amp; loving kindness.”

In another tweet she said, “We did Path and seva the same morning. I am a devotee. I seek Baba’s blessings all the way. I started the day with Path in the house. Please do not doubt my intention. I have the highest regards and admiration for my community and my faith.”
