Fazilka, July 17

After the first spell of rain, a majority of the city areas, especially slums, plunged into darkness and remained without power for over 24 hours.

As per information, of the 15 urban power feeders, a majority of these developed snags in the past three days.

SUPPLY RESTORED IN MOST AREAS

The power supply has been restored in the majority of the areas. Even the supply system is over 15 years old. There’s staff crunch too. Sudeep Sokhal, PSPCL Executive Engineer

Ashwani Kalra of Namdev Nagar said the power supply was snapped immediately after the rain started and had not been restored even after 24 hours. “Inverters have also become redundant.”

As the power transformers in Ramdev Nagar locality caught fire twice,

officials concerned reportedly expressed inability in transporting these to replace these. Locals collected funds to “pay” for the transportation charges.

Ajay Rai of Khatikan Mohalla slum said cuts were imposed eight to 10 times a day.

Notably, the power supply remained suspended in Bikaneri Road, Ghas Mandi, Mehrian Bazaar, Old Abohar Road, Farsh Number 14, Ajit Singh Market, Mahavir Colony, Ahuja Street, Janglian Street, Mehtab Ganj Road and other localities today.

Beopar Mandal chief Ashok Gulbadhar too said it had become difficult to carry on their business due to the prolonged power breakdown.
