Singhu lynching: Punjab Dy CM for probe by sitting judge

Chandigarh, October 16

Deputy Chief Minister and state Home Minister Sukhjinder Singh Randhawa today demanded an inquiry by a sitting judge to bring out the truth behind the Singhu border incident yesterday.

Randhawa called it a sensitive issue that was linked to the religious beliefs of the people and associated with farmers who had been protesting peacefully from almost a year against the farm laws. “At this juncture, it was important to identify the anti-social elements inciting religious sentiments and defaming the farmers’ agitation. Attempts to sabotage the peaceful agitation were already being made by some disgruntled elements.”

He said the Haryana Government and its police could not disassociate themselves from the incident as the responsibility of maintaining the law and order laid with the state. — TNS
