Chandigarh, October 25
The family members of the Dalit man who was murdered at the Singhu protest site on October 12 met National Commission for Scheduled Castes (NCSC) chairman Vijay Sampla at its headquarters in New Delhi on Monday.
Victim Lakhbir Singh’s wife Jaspreet Kaur, three daughters, sister Raj Kaur, father-in-law Baldev Singh and brother-in-law Sukhchain Singh urged the NCSC chairman to ensure justice.
The body of Lakhbir was found hanging with severed hand, close to the main stage of the farmers’ protest site. “The family informed the NCSC they have got no support from religious or social organisations or the state government even after two weeks of the incident. However, the NCSC will ensure the accused are booked under the Prevention of Atrocities Act. The young daughters of Lakhbir will get free education and money for livelihood and wife will get monthly pension. Compensation of at least Rs 8.25 lakh will be ensured,” said Sampla. — TNS
