Chandigarh, September 22
In the firing line of the new political dispensation in the state, DGP (Provisioning) and former head of a Special Investigation Team (SIT) looking into the Kotkapura and Behbal Kalan police firing cases Prabodh Kumar today sought the central deputation. The 1988-batch IPS officer has requested Chief Minister Charanjit Singh Channi that he should be named in the state government offer list of officers willing for a central deputation.
Kumar is the first police officer to seek posting outside the state as he and several officials are on the radar of the new political dispensation. Newly appointed Deputy CM Sukhjinder Randhawa had sought action against Kumar for allegedly failing as the head of the Kotkapura SIT to deliver justice and causing trouble for the key investigator IG Kunwar Vijay Pratap.
Prabodh, had differences with Kunwar Vijay on several points of the investigation and conduct. He had even written a letter to the DGP, expressing his difference of opinion with the investigation of Kunwar Vijay. He also refused to sign on the investigation papers. The Punjab and Haryana High Court had later quashed the investigation and disbanded the SIT. — TNS
