Chandigarh, August 31
With elections in Punjab due in a few months, Chief Minister Capt Amarinder Singh on Tuesday enhanced the social security pension to Rs 1,500 per month from Rs 500 given by the previous SAD-BJP alliance government.
Capt Amarinder joined the people in paying tributes to former Chief Minister Beant Singh on his 26th death anniversary by observing two-minute silence.
Addressing the people on the occasion, the Chief Minister said Beant Singh laid down his life for peace, which ultimately led to a congenial atmosphere to ensure economic development in the state.
The Chief Minister further said of the poll promises made in the manifesto, 422 had already been fully implemented, 52 partially while 59 were yet to be implemented. “Thus, we have fulfilled 90 per cent of the implementable promises which is the highest ever in any state after Chandrababu Naidu’s government in Andhra Pradesh,” said Capt Amarinder, adding that 14 promises were difficult to fulfil as these were related to VAT, which had been replaced by the GST regime.
On the occasion, the CM disbursed cheques of enhanced pension to 10 old age, widow, destitute and handicapped beneficiaries to mark the symbolic launch of the scheme across the state.
People virtually joined today’s event at nearly 4,000 locations while ministers, MLAs and people’s representatives participated at functions in different parts of the state for the disbursal of cheques. — TNS
