Chief Minister Capt Amarinder Singh on Saturday ordered the Deputy Commissioner, Tarn Taran, to conduct a special girdawari to assess the damage caused to crop and houses due to heavy rains that led to waterlogging in nearby villages following the flooding of the Kasur nullah.
The Chief Minister also directed the Principal Secretary, Water Resources, to rush in a high-level team, comprising senior officers of the department and its drainage wing, to initiate dewatering in some villages of Khemkaran area in Patti tehsil by pressing into service requisite machinery and manpower. He instructed the team to further strengthen the flood protection works in the vulnerable areas on a priority basis so as to prevent recurrence of such incidents due to incessant rains in the region in the coming days. The Chief Minister also asked the district administration to keep its relief and rehabilitation teams ready to face any eventuality arising out heavy rains.
