Special nakas were set up on Saturday in all the three districts of Rupnagar range with the aim of identifying persons of suspicious character and stopping drug smuggling.
Gurpreet Singh Bhullar, DIG Rupnagar Range, said in all the three districts of the range, Mohali, Rupnagar and Fatehgarh Sahib, 70 special checkpoints under the leadership of gazetted officer rank officers were set up.
He said today’s checking campaign was carried out between 4 pm and 7 pm in the whole of Punjab by conducting a special Nakabandi and questioning the persons of suspicious character who were travelling by road.
He added according to the instructions of the DGP, all police officers, including the ADGP rank, conducted ground-level supervision during. Bhullar said DGP Gaurav Yadav himself reviewed the ongoing activities during the Nakabandi at Ropar today.
He said in Mohali district, nakabandi was conducted under the leadership SSP Vivek Sheel Soni. He said 33 special checkpoints were installed in the district, during which 280 police officers of all ranks were stationed at the checkpoints.

He said sniffer dogs were also used during this special Nakabandi In order to prevent drug trafficking .He said that the VAHAN portal is also being used by the police to identify vehicles with fake number plates.
