Spl girdawari ordered to assess crop damage

Chandigarh, October 25

To assess the damage caused to crops due to the recent unseasonal rains, Punjab Revenue and Rehabilitation Minister Aruna Chaudhary has directed the Revenue Department to conduct special girdawari in the state and asked deputy commissioners to submit report within a week.

Give compensation, AAP urges centre

  • AAP MLAs, state office-bearers, district presidents and constituency incharges visited various mandis across the state and met farmers, arhtiyas and labourers on Monday. They assessed the crop damage due to recent rain and hailstorm
  • They urged the Union Government to provide a special relief package for the crops destroyed. They also demanded that the Punjab Government should pay 100 per cent compensation per acre to the farmers for the damaged crops

Chaudhary directed the deputy commissioners to ensure girdawari of damage to standing crop was done within the stipulated period so that affected farmers could be compensated at the earliest. She assured the farmers of state government’s support, saying it was committed to their welfare.

Meanwhile, Financial Commissioner (Revenue) VK Janjuaa has asked the DCs to conduct special girdawari in a speedy and transparent manner and submit a detailed report regarding the damage to crops.

He said once the report was received, it would be forwarded to the state executive committee headed by the Chief Secretary for compensation as per the prescribed norms.

According to the officer, instructions had been issued to DCs to verify girdawari reports compiled by the Revenue Department within the set time frame. — TNS
