Stone laid for Rs 16-crore canal in Fazilka

Fazilka, December 3

Jalalabad MLA Raminder Singh Awla laid the foundation stone of the much-awaited Suhelewala canal in Chak Vairoke village of Fazilka district today.

Awla said Rs 16 crore would be spent on the 14-km long canal. According to sources, the canal would benefit thousands of farmers of several villages, including Dhab Khushal Joyia, Chak Panj Kohi, Chak Kabarwala, Chak Gulab Rasoolwala, Chak Balochan, Bahmniwala, etc.

Awla said the first instalment of Rs 702.56 lakh had been released by the Punjab Government to acquire the land for the purpose. He said cheques of the acquired land had also been disbursed among some farmers.

The MLA claimed that the long-pending demand of the farmers shall soon take a practical shape and the canal would be a lifeline for those who were otherwise deprived of canal water for irrigation purposes since long. — OC
