Former AAP’s state unit convener Sucha Singh Chhotepur joined the SAD in the presence of party president Sukhbir Singh Badal here today.
Sukhbir announced Chhotepur’s appointment as the party’s senior vice-president and fielded him from Batala. With Chhotepur on board, the Akalis are hoping to strengthen the Panthic vote. His father Mohan Singh Tur was Jathedar of Akal Takht and president of the SGPC as also the SAD.

Ex-MLA Master Baldev Singh quits AAP
- Former Jaito MLA Master Baldev Singh, who was recently disqualified from the Punjab Vidhan Sabha, on Thursday resigned from the AAP
- In his resignation, sent to state party president Bhagwant Mann, he cited “personal reasons” for quitting the party
- Master Baldev Singh had rebelled against AAP leadership in 2018, and had contested the 2019 General Election from Faridkot on the Punjab Ekta Party ticket
Chhotepur won from Dhariwal constituency in 1985 and was the Minister for Health and Tourism in the Surjit Singh Barnala government. He joined the Congress in 2009, but switched to the AAP in 2014.
After joining the SAD, Chhotepur appealed to “all Punjabi and Panthic forces to close ranks and unite under a single Akali flag to fight and defeat the vicious three-pronged attack by outsiders to ‘vanquish Punjabi and Panthic jazba’.”
Welcoming Chhotepur into “his mother party”, Sukhbir said his return to the Akali fold symbolised the strengthening of the Panthic forces.
