Chandigarh, July 25
Gold and diamond jewellery worth several lakhs have been stolen from the government house of a Punjab-cadre IAS officer’s house in Sector 7.
Burglars targeted the house of IAS officer Moneesh Kumar, currently posted as the Tarn Taran Deputy Commissioner. According to the police, complainant Dr Mrinalini C Kumar, medical officer, GMSH-16, reported she along with her husband Moneesh had gone to Hyderabad on July 19.
When they returned home on July 24, they found the gate broken and the house ransacked. An almirah in a room on the first floor was broken and valuables, including gold and diamond jewellery, silver coins and watches, stolen. The police have registered a case under Sections 380 and 457 of the IPC at Sector 26 police station and initiated an investigation.
This is the second incident at an IAS officer’s house in Sector 7 within a short span. Last month, the government house of Sakshi Sawhney, a Punjab-cadre IAS officer, was burgled.
