Tejinder Bagga incident mockery of criminal justice system: Punjab

Chandigarh, July 6

The State of Punjab today told the Punjab and Haryana High Court that the forcibly taking away of accused-petitioner Tejinder Singh Bagga from police custody by the Delhi Police in connivance with the Haryana Police had “resulted into a mockery of the criminal justice system”.

In an affidavit placed before Justice Harinder Singh Sidhu’s Bench, Deputy Superintendent of Police Sukhnaaz Singh stated such incidents, if not discouraged by the Constitutional Courts, would give encouragement to conflicts between the states run by different political parties and would cause a serious dent on the federal structure of the country.

“The capacity to influence the investigation by the petitioner-accused is apparent from the incidents narrated that he was capable of putting the Delhi Police as well as the Haryana Police to come to his help and to take him away from lawful custody of the Punjab Police even after due arrest was made in pursuance to the impugned FIR,” it was added.
