Chandigarh, July 11
To reduce the economic burden on beneficiaries under the National Food Security Act and to ensure that they receive their monthly ration in a transparent manner with maximum ease, the Department of Food Civil Supplies and Consumer Affairs has initiated measures to operationalise the service of home delivery of ration.
A spokesman said the tenders for engaging delivery services and empanelling flour mills have been floated by Punjab State Cooperative D2D Marketing Society Ltd. To ensure maximum transparency and widest participation, the tenders for delivery services have been published across the country in leading economic dailies, he said, adding that the entire tendering process, including its evaluation, will be online on the government’s e-procurement portal. The spokesperson said the beneficiary would no longer be required to wait in long queues outside Fair Price Shops and forgo his daily wages. He said the proposed system provides traceability of every grain of wheat from source (godown) to destination (beneficiary).
