‘Upset’ at killings, farmer ends life

Raikot, October 5

A farmer of Dhaliwal Patti of Sudhar village here allegedly committed suicide by hanging himself with a tree near a Canal on Monday evening. Paramjit Singh (50) was reportedly upset over the brutal mowing down of farmers who were protesting at Lakhimpur Kheri in UP.

Though a slip purported to be a suicide note was found from the pocket of Paramjit, the aggrieved family did not want a case registered on the basis of it. The Sudhar police conducted inquest proceedings under Section 174 of the CrPC and handed over the body to the family after conducting a postmortem.

The suicide note, genuineness of which was yet to be ascertained, consisted of three lines in the vernacular language, stating he was ending his life as he was upset over Lakhimpur incident and the government’s attitude towards the demand for repeal of the three farm laws. He is survived by three children and his wife.

SHO Sudhar Jasvir Singh Buttar said the police had initiated inquest proceedings into the incident. — OC
