The Economic Offences Wing of the Vigilance Bureau on Thursday caught junior assistant and executive officer of Ludhaina Improvement Trust (LIT) red-handed while allegedly accepting bribe.

One Satnam Singh had filed a complaint that LIT junior assistant Harmit Singh was demanding Rs 20,000 for processing and finalising his case of ‘one time settlement’ of default payment for a booth alloted to him by the LIT in Rajguru Nagar.

Harmit had assured the complainant of getting the job done.

On this information, three teams of the Vigilance Bureau here were deputed.

The teams planned a trap and Harmit was caught red-handed with a bribe of Rs 10,000.

LIT executive officer Kamaljit Kaur was also arrested for being present at the scene.
