Jalandhar, April 16
Punjab Congress chief Amrinder Singh Raja Warring today said giving 300 units of free power was a good initiative, but Chief Minister Bhagwant Mann must clarify whether the tariff and other power-related schemes announced by the previous government would continue.
On a tour to Jalandhar to meet Congress leaders, Warring said, “We fear the financial position of the PSPCL will worsen as it may have to borrow Rs 500 crore for power purchase in the coming paddy season.” Warring interacted with The Tribune at the residence of Jalandhar MP Chaudhary Santokh Singh and his son and Phillaur MLA Vikramjit Chaudhary.
“Bhagwant Mann ji, the proof of pudding is in the eating. The truthfulness of your 300 unit free power will be tested in the details and conditions attached to it. Best of luck to PSPCL who have to survive now, somehow (sic),” he had tweeted in the morning.
Reacting to the challaning and impounding of buses by Transport Minister Laljit Singh Bhullar, Warring said, “He should have ideally taken on the Indo-Canadian Bus Transport, especially since he had especially come to Jalandhar yesterday.”
On reports of PPCC ex-chief Navjot Sidhu avoiding him at Amritsar yesterday, he said, “I called him up, but he did not answer. After sometime, I got a call from a person saying he had gone to Samrala… I will meet every worker who needs to be placated.” Warring also visited the houses of other leaders, including MLAs Hardev Laddi and Bawa Henry and ex-MLAs Sushil Rinku, Surinder Chaudhary and Rajinder Beri. —
