Moga, June 28

A 42-year-old man was allegedly beaten to death here, the police officials confirmed on Tuesday.

Lakshman Singh, a resident of nearby Nathuwala Jadid village worked as a night watchman in the canter union here.

Lakshman was regularly thrashed by one Kulwant Singh Gill alias Lambu, a resident of Kothe Patti Mohabbat area of Moga, over a personal dispute between them.

Lakhsman was rushed to the district hospital in a serious condition. He was referred to the Guru Gobind Singh Medical College and Hospital at Faridkot where he succumbed to his injuries.

Lakshman’s wife told police that she called her husband repeatedly but he did not pick-up the calls.

She, along with her son, went to the canter union to see him.

“On reaching there, I saw that Kulwant was standing beside my husband who was lying on the floor. Kulwant was holding a blood-laden stick with which he had brutally beaten my husband,” she recorded her statement to the police.

Preliminary investigations revealed that Kulwant had clashed with the owners of a dhaba a few days back and he (Kulwant) suspected Lakshman to have told something about him to the dhaba-owner.

It was due to this reason that Kulwant had beaten Lakhsman to death, the police officials said.

A criminal case under Section 302 of the IPC was registered against Kulwant at the City-I police station. However, he was yet to be arrested by the police.
