Devinderjit Singh, alias Ladi Dhos, of the AAP, who was elected as an MLA for the first-time from Dharamkot in Moga, says his priority will be to end sand mafia and corruption, attract agro-based units to provide jobs, improve public transport system, upgrade health and education facilities and raise the standards of the farming community.

Though Ladi, 44, has inherited the political legacy of his father late Kuldeep Singh Dhos, he was groomed as a youth leader in the erstwhile Peoples’ Party of Punjab (PPP), which was launched in 2011 by Manpreet Badal but later merged into the Congress. Ladi was the national president of the PPP’s youth wing. CM Bhagwant Mann was also in the PPP at that time. It was then that Dhos came in contact with Mann and on the latter’s persuasion, he joined AAP and contested the polls for the first time. He polled 65,378 votes and defeated veteran Akali leader Jathedar Tota Singh and sitting MLA Sukhjit Singh.

Ladi said his priority would be to take adequate steps for the agrarian sector. “My second priority is job creation for the youth… Social welfare schemes for the EWS people and bring public institutions on a par with private ones is my vision,” he added.

Farming in focus

Over 90% locals are dependent on farming for livelihood. Improving the agrarian system here is necessary. — Devinderjit Singh, Dharamkot MLA
