Won’t join auction, say liquor contractors

Abohar/Sriganganagar, February 15

Unhappy with the new excise policy of the Rajasthan Government, members of the Liquor Contractors’ Union, during a meeting at Kisan Bhawan in Hanumangarh, vowed to not take part in the lottery process of liquor shops for the next financial year.

The state expects a revenue of Rs 13,000 crore from the sale of alcoholic beverages. Online auctions will be held for 7,665 shops.

Not more than two shops in a district and not more than five in the state can be allotted to the same person. Union spokesperson Gurdeep Singh Brar said the guarantee of Rajasthan-made liquor sale had been increased from 30 per cent to 50 per cent. — OC
