Several people were killed following a building collapse in Southwest Delhi’s Satya Niketan on September 6, 2026. The building, that was being run as a paying guest (PG) accommodation, had been housing students enrolled in the University of Delhi’s south campus. Locals said the building, which comprises a basement plus five more floors, was at least 50-years-old. Repair work was underway in the basement when the incident occurred, police officials said.

The incident has thrown a spotlight on the safety of students living in PG accommodations and the acute shortage of hostel facilities for outstation students in Delhi. The deceased students hailed from several States, including Uttar Pradesh, Chhattisgarh, and Madhya Pradesh.
