Three days after Punjab Chief Minister Bhagwant Mann laid the foundation stone of Sant Baba Attar Singh State Institute of Medical Sciences, Mastuana Sahib, Sangrur, state government released Rs 71 crore on Monday.

The Finance, Planning, Excise and Taxation Minister Harpal Singh Cheema said the Finance Department (FD) has released Rs 71 crore for the institute to ensure that the work on this ambitious project to be completed before deadline.

“An amount of Rs 49.98 crore has been released to the institute for the construction of boys’ and girls’ hostel, and Rs 21.19 has been released for the extension of existing Civil Hospital, Sangrur, and construction of additional floor in Civil Hospital,” said Cheema.

Sant Attar Singh State Institute of Medical Sciences at Mastuana Sahib will come up over an area of 25 acres with an estimated cost of nearly Rs 345 crore. The Civil Hospital, Sangrur, will also be attached to the medical institute.

“We are committed to complete the work on this medical institute by March 31, 2023. We have also given approval to the creation of 1020 posts for this institute and the academic session would commence from April 1 next year. Like this promise, we are working hard to fulfill all promises of our government,” said Cheema.

Earlier during Congress regime, authorities had first proposed the same institute in Gharachon village while later the foundation stone was laid on the land of Ghabdan village last year, but finally it was shifted to present location some days back.

“We would fulfill our promises and have started work. Congress and SAD-BJP offered only lip service, but we are serious for our each word” said Cheema.
