DMK president M.K. Stalin on Wednesday (September 9, 2026) announced his party’s candidates for byelection to be held in Madurantakam and Dharapuram Assembly constituencies in Tamil Nadu on October 6.
Party’s legal wing deputy secretary I. Paranthamen who previously served as Egmore constituency MLA in 2021-26 has now been fielded in Madurantakam (Chengalpattu district), while S. Suganya, an advocate and a member of the DMK women’s wing is the candidate for Dharapuram (Tiruppur district).
Both the reserved constituencies fell vacant following the resignation of AIADMK legislators Maragatham Kumaravel (Madurantakam) and P. Sathyabama (Dharapuram) who later joined the ruling Tamilaga Vettri Kazhagam (TVK).
“Our leader [M.K. Stalin] has faith in me and has fielded me in the election. It is a great recognition. I will win the election and submit the victory to our leader,” Mr. Paranthamen told The Hindu.
He said the government’s failure on various fronts, its inability to fulfil its promises, and the portrayal of the administration through “cinema scenes” would work in favour of the DMK.
